What is a PADI 5 * Gold Palm resort?

The Padi 5 Star Gold Palm Resort status is awarded to progressive centres that excel in providing quality services to travelling divers. The centre must present a professional image and actively promote the benefits of recreational scuba diving and snorkelling, dive travel and environmental awareness. Not only must the centre adhere to Padi educational standards, it must conduct Padi programmes as outlined in the Padi Instructor Manual using all appropriate materials for each course. A Gold Palm Resort must consider customer satisfaction, dive experience, education, safety and environmental awareness as important aspects of diver training programmes.

A Padi 5 Star Gold Palm Resort must satisfy a number of pre-requisites and requirements including
• Have accommodation available as part of an advertised package. Accommodation must offer comfort and convenience to customers and be appropriate for the local area
• In areas where dives are commonly conducted by boat, the vessel must be well maintained and meet any local laws or regulations regarding boat operations
• When operating a dive boat ensure that it is equipped with at least:

- One fire extinguisher
- One personal flotation device per passenger
- Flares or emergency signalling device
- First Aid kit
- Oxygen unit with an adequate supply of oxygen
- Safety stop equipment
- Dive Flag
- Drift line with float

• Ensure that at least one crew member who is trained to operate the boat’s oxygen unit and properly administer oxygen for any diving incidence is onboard the dive boat when carrying passengers

• Ensure that all rental scuba units and snorkelling equipment are maintained according to the manufacturer’s specifications and that each scuba unit is equipped with a submersible pressure gauge, depth gauge, alternate air source and a power inflation device.
